The fast bowler Poised for a Key Part in Ashes Series

Test match action

The pace bowler has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.

The Australian chair of selectors the selector has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the forthcoming Ashes series.

Rumors had circulated that Cummins might sit out due to a stress fracture in his back that was still troubling him.

Previous updates from team management suggested no official announcement had been made regarding whether he would play, with the Test matches kicking off on the 21st of November in Western Australia.

He revealed that his recovery is on track and felt positive about the prospects of being involved.

"It's clear that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations at play, aside from the physical problem, but further aspects," Bailey remarked.

"It's positive. [We are] really confident that he'll participate in a major part. Hopefully from the opening match. If not, we'll reassess."

Past Concerns

Cummins was ruled out the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.

Previous incidents include of back injuries, with recurrences in multiple past seasons leading to absences from several home seasons in a limited period.

He emphasized he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his rehabilitation process to make the squad for the contest.

Bailey noted that he did not know if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his rehabilitation but admitted it was "becoming urgent" for him to recover fully for the opener.

Alternative Arrangements

If he's unavailable, ex-skipper Smith will assume leadership.

The talented all-rounder was withdrawn recently from the national team for their ODI contests against the subcontinent side as a safety move because of soreness in his side.

Bailey described it as a "minor" injury and confirmed that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to be ready to bowl."

"We put so much time has gone into developing the strategy for him to be available for the opening match as an dual-role player," he elaborated.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the initial matches regardless. How he handles the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, should it hinder progress for 24 more hours, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
